Many of our patients come in with real anxiety from a past bad experience. We take the extra time to figure out what will make the visit feel different — and we'll teach you the actual reason behind every recommendation, not just hand it to you.
Dr. Wilgus's practice runs on two commitments. First: the extra minutes it takes to make a nervous patient actually comfortable. Second: teaching the "why" — because patients who understand what's happening make better choices and skip fewer visits.
If anxiety is why you've skipped the dentist, say so. We adjust pacing, use nitrous when it helps, and keep the conversation going so nothing is a surprise.
Dr. Wilgus leans toward the most conservative option that will actually work. If a filling can wait and watch, you'll be told.
Patients tell her they've never been shown why or how to floss properly. She takes the two minutes to show you — because the follow-through at home is where oral health actually lives.
Comfort through the whole process is the focus. Nitrous and Valium are available for anxious patients.
"Making a patient feel safe enough to truthfully communicate with me is very important." If you have a question or concern, Dr. Wilgus wants it on the table.
Exams, cleanings, extractions, Invisalign, veneers, teeth whitening, implants, crowns, bridges — all under one roof in Tifton.
Dr. Wilgus has wanted to be a dentist since she was a kid pretending to clean her friends' teeth with toy instruments. That early curiosity became a career: a Bachelor's in Public Health, then a DMD from the University of Florida College of Dentistry, and now a Tifton practice built on comfort and patient education.
She's known for two things: making extractions genuinely comfortable, and taking the extra minutes to teach patients the real reason behind every oral-health recommendation — not just "floss more."
“Many patients have a lot of fear or anxiety when they come to the dentist because they've had negative experiences in the past. I think we take the extra time to try to figure out what we can do to make the patient feel more comfortable — and help them understand that we are here for them.”— Dr. Megan Wilgus

Tell us. Dr. Wilgus says many patients come in with real anxiety from past experiences, and the first visit is paced around that. Nitrous and other comfort options are discussed before anything starts, not after.
The biggest misconception Dr. Wilgus hears is that extractions have to hurt. Keeping you comfortable through the whole process is what we focus on — and nitrous or oral sedation are on the table for patients who need them.
Short answer: cavities and gum disease both start in the places a toothbrush can't reach. The longer version Dr. Wilgus gives you in the chair — she'll show you how, and tell you why, in about two minutes.
